Thanks to all of you who are following this class. Last Wednesday was very productive!

In class, we talked about mobile media and digital videos. We identified the key data that can be obtained through smartphone applications, which can be great for digital marketing campaigns. We also looked at why marketing and communications teams should consider mobile media and digital videos, especially considering the growing amount of users of both types of media in France and throughout the world.
During the last lesson,
we discussed Twitter and the best practices to adopt on this platform.
We also looked into business blogging and its role in Search Engine

Twitter accounts

During
class, we looked into some of the best practices for creating a Twitter
account and learned how to simply use the social network. At the end of
the discussion on Twitter, everyone in class had created a Twitter
account.

We took advantage of class time to then learn about
live-tweeting and how to participate in online discussions using
hashtags, the '@' sign and Re-Tweeting (RT).

If you have not yet created
a Twitter account, please create one now. Please follow the guidelines in the
class presentation.

Business Blogging

We
also talked about the importance of blogging for businesses. Google
takes into consideration the new content on a company's blog to help
provide better ranking (SEO). We also saw how a corporate blog is a
great opportunity to inform customers and to engage with them (ex.
comments posted after a blogpost). At the end of the class, everyone had
created a personal blog explaining their studies at ISCOM.

Class Assignments

Everyone
who is following this class must create a Twitter account. If you have
not done this yet, please create one before class next Wednesday, 15 May
2013. Students must also create a personal blog using the following
critera :

In
class, we discussed a successful Facebook marketing operation lead by
McDonald's in America. Through this example, we were able to see how
engagement, influence, reach and virality were vital for McDonald's
campaign to succeed. Students are reminded that they are required to do the following:

Prepare a one slide presentation using the presentation software of
their choice (Powerpoint, Keynote, Open Office, etc...).

The presentation must include a small
description of the campaign as well as a description of the campaign's
results. Most importantly, the presentations must be done in English.

Please sign your work with either a social media account or your name, which ever you are most comfortable sharing on the internet.

Presentations must be e-mailed by 9 April 2013.

In
order for the class to operate in the best conditions, a few guidelines
have been put into place. Student are expected to follow them
throughout the semester.

Live-tweeting

Live-tweeting
is allowed during class, and ONLY for this class. Please tweet using the hashtags #ISCOM #IntroSM.

Students are reminded
that use of social media, mobile phones and computers must be approved
by school faculty. You MUST ask your other professors if you can use
social media in their classes if you want to live-tweet during another
class. A professor's word is final. If they say no, then do not push the
topic further. For this class, Mme. Puyau has graciously accepted to
let us live-tweet. When you see her at ISCOM, remember to thank her for
providing us with this opportunity.
